Weston Air International Limited was formed in 1995 as a specialist cargo logistics company, providing services to the automotive industry with "Just In Time" urgent shipments, outsized and project movements for the oil and gas industry and UK and foreign government and military aircraft charter. We soon developed a niche specialisation in the movement of class one dangerous goods and worldwide contacts for diplomatic and overflight clearances. The cargo charter division continued to rapidly grow and outsized and project movements using AN124 and B747 aircraft, became a large part of our charter business, moving military aircraft and helicopters and ship spares.
In 1997, business aviation was expanding rapidly in Europe and our passenger charter division, Focus Air Charter was created to provide a bespoke and tailored service for private jet charter and group aircraft charter. This division provided the charter of small air taxis, private jets, regional aircraft and airliners for group charters. Our client list has grown significantly in this division today include Premiership sports teams, manufacturing companies for product launches, television and film production units, individuals and family groups for business and leisure flights. Our worldwide reach has continued to grow with charter operations in Singapore, Canada, USA, South America, Russia and the Caribbean.
In 2001, we saw that there was a requirement for the provision of private aviation handling facilities and services at developing regional airports, where private jet owners and charter aircraft were being serviced at these airports by either the airport authority, a general handler or a cargo agent. To offer these aircraft operators and charterers the high level of service that they require, Midwest Executive Aviation Limited was formed and we opened an FBO facility at Durham Tees Valley Airport (MME/EGNV) in the North East of England near Darlington and also at Newquay Cornwall Airport (NQY/EGHQ) in the South West of England. At both airports we have created dedicated Business Aviation Centres that provide quality crew and passenger lounge facilities, conference and meeting rooms, crew briefing and office space for based operators either on a short or long term basis. Both Durham Tees Valley and Newquay Cornwall Airports have experienced a significant growth in their business and private charter aircraft since we introduced our services and facilities.
In order to provide a fully integrated aviation services company, plans were laid out in November 2009 to bring our three aviation businesses together under one single branding and Weston Aviation was created. This new identity and structure has brought together all of our aviation services. In line with our future development plans to continue the introduction of our business aviation and aircraft charter services to further regional airports in the UK and overseas, we opened our third UK Business Aviation Centre at Humberside International Airport (HUY/EGNJ) on the 1st June 2011.
